Subject: New to this group  Hi...I got a link to this group on another camping group.   My husband and I have a travel trailer and love to go on jaunts.   We live in Virginia.  In the last five years we have taken two trips across country and have seen a lot of the big parks.   We like to camp at Westmoreland State Park here in Virginia.  It is on the Potomac near Colonial Beach.

I guess our very favorite is Cherrystone in Cheriton VA. This is on the Southern end of the
Delmarva Peninsula, near the Bay Bridge Tunnels to VA Beach.  This campground is on a bay, has fishing and crabbing piers, a pool complex with something for everyone (even an all adult pool by the bay).  There are also clam beds, as at the entrance is a clammery (???) owned by Cherrystone (ever heard of Cherrystone clams??). There is a nice game room, store and even a little sandwich/ice cream restaurant/snack bar. Even a fishing tackle store/boat ramp.

A close second is RJ Ranch Resort in
Hillsville VA. Has pools, water slide, a lake for fishing, kayak, paddleboats and canoeing. Snack bar/ice cream, decent store. This is where popupexplorer "members" are having a week long eastern US rally starting the weekend after the 4th of July. Everybody is welcome. Reservations will be opening up July 5th. I already have my wish list in for sites. This was where PUT sponsored their rally last year and there were 3 of us hybriders in the group. My Bantam, a brand spanking new Kiwi and a Starcraft (came all the way from NYC), so the rally is not limited to popups. There was a tenter with our group also.

I really like
Newport News Park in Newport News VA. No pool, but a nice reservoir for fishing and small boats (trolling motors) 7 miles from Williamsburg off I 64. No Sewer hookups, but huge sites, some lake view or lake front. Good shopping in the area (Super Walmart in NPN, Big Lots in Williamsburg. As well as other stores like a tool outlet and Williamsburg has lots of factory outlets also).

We also like the Navy Rec area at Soloman's Island MD. This has everything (but a campstore) but the full hook ups are near the highway and not near the River. Sites range from large to cramped. We usually ask for section A nice sized water/electric sites. There is a Giant Food Store about a half mile from the base (and it is a base, you have to have ID to enter OR you have to have someone staying there with ID to
have a car pass for you). 65 miles from
Washington DC, there is Pax River Naval Air Stations across the bridge (and boy you know it is a bridge) a few miles, Point Lookout SP is on the other side of Pax River. Kids love pool complex, there is a driving range, yurts can be rented, a game room, fishing crabbing pier, marina, and quaint Soloman's Island is near by with charter type fishing (the kind that you just show up at a certain time and pay for a given numbers of hours, head boats???).

Hello campers!

We're a retired couple camping in our mini-van (where we usually sleep) and tent in the eastern US.  So far our favorite spots have been the Finger Lakes Region of NY and
Shenandoah National Park in VA.  Age and health got us looking for some easier camping options and we joined Thousand Trails, a membership group.  Our most recent trips have been relaxing at their Hershey campground.  We don't do much camping in July and August due to the heat, but we're thinking of trying out the 1000 island area.
