New York City
I am
looking to see if anyone could recommend a campground near NYC. I would suggest Tallman Mountain State Park in Piermont NY or any of the grounds in the Harriman State Park or Bear Mountain State Park all of these are north of the
city and my preference being Bear Mountain at Heissian Lake. It is very close to West Point and I would also recommend
visiting there, it is a spectacle in it's own right (my son attends). The
area is loaded with history from the revolutionary period and the scenery is
just awesome. I would recommend also drive your toad to either Suffern or
Nyack and take New Jersey Transit Auth train to New York City, parking your jeep will be
difficult and auto theft is a concern especially for a JGC. The train is
only a few bucks and after you pay the thruway tolls, palisades parkway tolls
George Washington Bridge tolls and parking fee's you
will have saved some money and a bunch of aggravation. The subway is easy to
use and very safe, there are transit auth police and US Army soldiers all
over the place guarding the system, Transit Auth workers and police will be
happy to offer any assistance you may ask about but do not approach the
soldiers they are there to watch and guard and are not allowed to talk to
passers-by. Any how take NJT to Secaucus Station and transfer (free) to NYTU
to the first stop
Penn Station and get off there it is very close to every thing you want to see
except battery park where you get on the boats to Statue of Liberty and Ellis
Island but will be near all the museums and galleries in midtown west side. I
don’t know what you are into or your food prefs are but don’t miss underground
pizza and Italian in lower level down the exit hall and a left turn at the
mall from where you get off NJT transfer train in Penn Station it is Classic
NYC Italian that is to die for; for example a hunk of 7 cheese meat lasagna
that must weigh 2 to 3 pounds and is 6 inches thick is only 5 or 6 dollars
"DONT MISS IT!" Also on 72nd street half a block from Central Park
West is a place called Dallas and you will fill to your hearts content with
the best country chaw available anywhere! It is a few blocks away from Museum
of Natural History and Central Park West is a very safe area and is full of
upscale brownstones and has a lot of big names in the area such as across the
street from Dallas is Yoko Ono's appt, formerly Johns favorite digs in USA
and it isn’t unusual to be sitting next to a celeb of some degree here. Most
things are walking distance from Penn Station or a short subway ride, I am
from Arizona and my wife is from Suffern NY and I find the city folk to be
some of the friendliest, talkative people I have met anywhere contrary to
popular rumor. I just love going to NYC! I might also suggest shopping on say
priceline and bid your price for a top rate hotel room in NYC, you would be
surprised at how inexpensively you can stay there if you know how and what
you are doing. You certainly have my envy, My mouth
is watering thinking about the food there! Oh the food prices are going to
blow you away! They are surprisingly cheap also. Just do yourself the favor,
DONT DRIVE INTO THE CITY! It is more fun and exciting to take the train
anyhow! K.

Saranac Lake
A good campground for natural beauty,....
(although not a resort with full hookups) is Fish Creek Pond, a NY State Campground.
Located near Saranac Lake, NY
on Rt.30. Come ready to enjoy a waterfront site on an Adirondack
pond. Campground runs the
perimeter of Square Pond and Fish Creek Pond and has 355 sites, nearly all of
which are waterfront. As it is an older state park it
does not have hookups. But for a night or two it is well worth the
effort. I drove through on Saturday afternoon and marked 29 sites
that appealed to me. Not all are sized for a big rig and all are
back-in sites. But like I said,..well
worth the effort. Hiking,
birdwatching, canoing, kyaking, and listening to the loons and owls,.. a perfect camping
experience.

and it's also listed in Reserve America.
